1. Tell us about WSF and how long have they been around?
“The fall of 2014 is when Eric and Ray were getting LAVO to get support from the other sports leagues, and engage their interest in them. They had their very first meeting in October of 2014. I was there for the second meeting on Dec. 2014, and that was when we asked all the sport league presidents and leaders to see if they’d be interested in participating in something. And in January we launched the website and social media and were planning to have the first event labor day weekend 2015.”
2. What is currently going on with WSF?
“In the globe of planning the second event, you know we won an award a couple of months after the first event after Labor Day 2015 weekend. We won an award for the best community multisport event for Compete Magazine, and that was I think in Nov. of 2015. Now, we’re just planning our second event, it’ll be larger and different where the better components learn some things, and we’re definitely adding to it. We’re definitely having the Elephant Grocers Expo which will be simultaneously ran at the same time as the sports festival. We’re adding more sponsors, different venues for opening and closing ceremonies, we will have a bigger celebration.”
3. What is your reason for the bid? Why are you involved?
“Essentially it’s about helping other people realize their dreams. Los Angeles is my adopted city, and I love it. When I came and got involved with WSF, I started meeting people and working with them in West Hollywood, I found out that it’s a really great, warm, and welcoming community. I certainly noticed that during the sports festival, that the environment was very again, warm, welcoming, and inclusive. It was about everyone coming together and I was overwhelmed by the sense of belonging and friendly competition and everyone was comfortable and could be themselves. And I’ve been around sports my whole career, like covering events, and I’ve never witnessed anything like that opening day of the West Hollywood Sports Festival, and that made me feel really really good about what I was doing and how I was helping, how I was contributing. I think it will be larger than it is now if I help bring the Games to Los Angeles and help many people realize their dreams. And from a career standpoint, this is a great networking opportunity, and I’m so grateful to be around sports and events in Los Angeles.”
We can’t wait for Labor Day Weekend! Stay tuned.
