The City of Angels has always been a melting pot of cultures as evidenced by the many ethnic neighborhoods sprinkled throughout the city. Today LA most definitely can be called an international hub, with the city constantly working to meet the diverse needs of its residents. Approximately 40 percent of LA’s population hails from across Latin America, Asia, Africa, Oceania and Europe. And it is home to the largest communities of several nationalities outside of their home countries.

Angelenos represent a variety of countries and cultures, which is apparent in the many ethnic enclaves across town. From Thai Town to Little Armenia, Los Angeles has it all.

Diversity in LA includes the LGBT community, too. A 2014 study revealed the LGBT population was about 40 percent in Los Angeles County. There are numerous centers for community outreach for the LGBT population including museum at USC in West Hollywood which holds LGBT-related archival materials.

West Hollywood is undeniably the gay epicenter of Los Angeles. This tiny city at the heart of LA is packed with gay bars and clubs, rainbow flags and same-sex couples holding hands on the pedestrian-friendly streets, and every year, the city hosts LA. PRIDE to celebrate its long history as a gay city. But in reality, queer culture is celebrated in many cities in Southern California, from the hipster hideaway Silver Lake to the beaches of Venice and Santa Monica.

The Gay Games is an opportunity to unite all of LA’s communities and to allow full participation and inclusion for everyone. Hosting the Gay Games in our city gives everyone a chance to be part of that dream.
